Bis[4-(3,3,4,4,5,5,5-heptafluoro-2,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)pentyl)phenyl]phenylphosphine (CAS 322647-83-6; C32H17F26P; molar mass 926.41 g/mol) is a fluorous ("Rf-tagged") triarylphosphine ligand bearing two heavily fluorinated alkyl ponytails. The perfluoroalkyl chains make it preferentially soluble in fluorous media, so it is used chiefly as a recyclable ligand for transition-metal catalysis in fluorous and fluorous-biphasic synthesis. Tech Serve Solutions supplies it as a research-grade reagent, assay ≥90.0%, to laboratories and process developers worldwide.

01 /Applications

Fluorous-phase catalysis ligand

The fluorinated ponytails confer high affinity for perfluorinated solvents, allowing the phosphine to act as a fluorous-soluble ligand in fluorous-biphasic and thermomorphic catalytic systems. This supports catalyst recovery and recycling by simple phase separation.

Transition-metal complex formation

As a triarylphosphine, it coordinates to soft transition metals such as palladium, rhodium and platinum to form organometallic complexes. The resulting fluorous-tagged complexes are studied as catalysts for homogeneous transformations.

Rf-tagged ligand for catalyst immobilisation

The perfluoroalkyl tags enable catalyst partitioning into a fluorous phase or onto fluorous supports, aiding separation of the catalyst from products. It is therefore used in research on immobilised and reusable homogeneous catalysts.

Specialty and exploratory synthesis

It serves as a building block and ligand in specialty organometallic and fluorous synthesis programmes. Use is principally at research and process-development scale rather than bulk manufacture.

06 /Frequently asked questions

What is Bis[4-(3,3,4,4,5,5,5-heptafluoro-2,2-bis(trifluoromethyl)pentyl)phenyl]phenylphosphine used for?

+

It is used mainly as a fluorous ("Rf-tagged") triarylphosphine ligand in transition-metal catalysis. The fluorinated ponytails give it affinity for fluorous solvents, so it supports fluorous-biphasic catalysis and catalyst recovery and recycling. It is applied at research and process-development scale.

What is the CAS number and molecular formula of this phosphine?

+

The CAS number is 322647-83-6 and the empirical formula is C32H17F26P (Hill notation). Its molecular weight is 926.41 g/mol, the MDL number is MFCD06412551, and the reported refractive index is n20/D 1.459.

What grade and purity does Tech Serve Solutions supply?

+

We supply it as a research-grade reagent with an assay of ≥90.0%. We do not represent it as USP, BP or EP pharmacopoeial grade. A current specification and certificate of analysis can be provided with each batch on request.

What are the safety and handling requirements?

+

It is classified GHS07 with signal word Warning and hazard statements H315 (causes skin irritation), H319 (causes serious eye irritation) and H335 (may cause respiratory irritation). Use eye protection, gloves and suitable respiratory protection, avoid dust and aerosol formation, and consult the SDS before handling. It is rated WGK 3 (highly hazardous to water in Germany).

How is this product packed, shipped and exported?

+

It is packed in tightly sealed, appropriately labelled containers sized to the order, with the relevant SDS and certificate of analysis. As a high-flash-point solid-type fine chemical (flash point >110 °C), it is exported worldwide in compliance with applicable transport and customs requirements; documentation is prepared to suit the destination.
