Fluorescent Red Mega 500
Fluorescent Red Mega 500 (CAS 540528-13-0), a highly fluorescent dye with the molecular formula C31H36N2O8S, offers a large Stokes' shift. This characteristic enables its excitation by short wavelength light sources such as argon lasers, making it suitable for multicolor techniques. Its direct conversion of excitation light to emission without FRET mechanisms opens avenues for advanced applications in research, including DNA sequencing and FISH microscopy.

Multicolor Fluorescence Techniques
Fluorescent Red Mega 500 is specifically designed for multicolor applications. Its unique spectral properties allow for independent detection of multiple labels within the same experiment, facilitating complex biological analyses.
FISH Microscopy
The dye's direct conversion of excitation light to emission, coupled with its fluorescence characteristics, makes it well-suited for Fluorescence In Situ Hybridization (FISH) microscopy, enabling precise cellular imaging.
DNA Sequencing
Due to its efficiency and spectral properties, Fluorescent Red Mega 500 has potential applications in DNA sequencing methodologies. Its ability to be excited by standard laser sources is advantageous.
Biochemical Assays
As a fluorescent label and probe, this compound can be utilised in various biochemical assays requiring sensitive detection methods. Its bright red fluorescence is ideal for quantitative measurements.

| Application | Fluorescent red Mega 500 and other Mega dyes are specifically designed for multicolor techniques. It is characterized by an extremely large stoke′s shift between excitation and emission maxima. This dye is especially well suited for excitation by argon lasers or other short wavelength excitation light. This means that it can be excited with the same light source or filter arrangement than fluorescein and other widely used dyes as well as other Mega dye. Due to the different emission wavelength several different labels can be detected independently in the same experiment. Due to the small size of the Mega-labels and the direct conversion of excitation light into emission without using a FRET mechanism we foresee a variety of possible applications including DNA sequencing and FISH microscopy. |
