Fluorescent Red Mega 485 NHS-ester
Fluorescent Red Mega 485 NHS-ester (CAS: 890317-36-9; Formula: C29H33N3O9S; MW: 599.65) is a specialised amine-conjugating fluorescent biolabel. Designed for multicolour techniques, it offers an exceptionally large Stokes' shift, enabling efficient excitation by standard argon lasers and independent detection with other fluorescent dyes. Its direct conversion of excitation light into emission without FRET mechanisms makes it suitable for advanced applications like DNA sequencing and FISH microscopy.

Amine Conjugation
This NHS-ester derivative is engineered for covalent coupling to proteins and other biomolecules featuring primary amino groups. Its reactive nature allows for stable and specific labelling of biological targets.
Multicolour Fluorescence Assays
The Mega 485 dye's broad excitation spectrum and distinct emission profile make it ideal for multiplexed analyses. It can be used alongside other Mega dyes or traditional fluorophores without spectral overlap.
High-Resolution Microscopy
Due to its efficient fluorescence and minimal spectral overlap, Fluorescent Red Mega 485 NHS-ester is well-suited for techniques such as FISH microscopy, enabling detailed visualisation of cellular structures.
DNA Sequencing
The dye's characteristics, including its excitation by common laser sources and direct fluorescence emission, suggest potential applications in advanced DNA sequencing methodologies.

| Application | Fluorescent Red Mega 485 NHS-ester is an amine conjugating fluorescent biolabel that can be used for covalent coupling to proteins and other biomolecules containing primary amino groups.Fluorescent red Mega 485 and other Mega dyes are specifically designed for multicolor techniques. It is characterized by an extremely large stoke′s shift between excitation and emission maxima. This dye is especially well suited for excitation by argon lasers or other short wavelength excitation light. This means that it can be excited with the same light source or filter arrangement than fluorescein and other widely used dyes as well as other Mega dye. Due to the different emission wavelength several different labels can be detected independently in the same experiment. Due to the small size of the Mega-labels and the direct conversion of excitation light into emission without using a FRET mechanism we foresee a variety of possible applications including DNA sequencing and FISH microscopy. |
