01 /Applications

Polymer Synthesis

1,4-Butanediol is a primary monomer in the production of polybutylene terephthalate (PBT), a thermoplastic polyester known for its strength and resistance. It is also a precursor to tetrahydrofuran (THF), which is used to make polytetramethylene ether glycol (PTMEG), a component in spandex fibres and polyurethanes.

Chemical Intermediate

It acts as a chain extender in polyurethane production, enhancing the properties of elastomers and coatings. Additionally, it is a precursor for gamma-butyrolactone (GBL), a solvent and intermediate in various chemical processes.

Solvent Applications

Due to its diol structure and polarity, 1,4-Butanediol can function as a solvent in certain industrial applications, particularly where high boiling point and solvency for polar compounds are required.
