ƒ moles = grams ÷ molecular weight
Convert between mass and amount of substance using molecular weight (grams ↔ moles), or convert between concentration units (M, mM, µM, nM). Pick a mode, enter a value and choose the units — the conversion is instant.
Mass and moles
Molecular weight is the bridge between grams and moles: moles = grams ÷ molecular weight, and grams = moles × molecular weight. The converter accepts kg, g, mg and µg on the mass side and mol, mmol, µmol and nmol on the amount side.
Concentration units
Molar concentrations scale by factors of 1000: 1 M = 1000 mM = 10⁶ µM = 10⁹ nM. The concentration mode converts between them without needing a molecular weight.
Frequently asked questions
How do I convert grams to moles?
Divide the mass in grams by the molecular weight (g/mol): moles = grams ÷ molecular weight. For 9 g of NaCl (MW 58.44): 9 ÷ 58.44 = 0.154 mol.
How do I convert moles to grams?
Multiply the amount in moles by the molecular weight: grams = moles × molecular weight. 0.5 mol of NaCl = 0.5 × 58.44 = 29.22 g.
Do I need the molecular weight?
For mass ↔ moles, yes — it is the conversion factor between grams and moles. For converting between concentration units (M, mM, µM, nM) you don't.
What is 1 M in mM?
1 M = 1000 mM = 1,000,000 µM. The concentration mode handles these conversions for you.
